Entrepreneurs from the Malaysian Social Entrepreneurs Fund are dedicated to enhancing society and education. Since 2023, they have launched the "MSEF Teacher Appreciation Programme" in collaboration with the Chinese education sector and established the "Long Service Gratuity for Independent Chinese Secondary School Teachers and Staff" to honor educators' contributions.

This initiative aims to raise awareness in the Chinese community about the dedication of teachers and staff in independent Chinese secondary schools. It seeks to instill gratitude among students, alumni, and parents for those who have devoted their lives to these institutions. Together, we can honor their vital contributions.

Under the Education Act of 1961, Malaysian Chinese secondary schools were restructured and divided into two categories.

Since their founding in 1962, independent Chinese secondary schools, which rely on the dedicated support of the grassroots Chinese community, have faced relentless challenges to their survival and now stand on the brink of extinction.

In 1973, the independent Chinese secondary schools revival movement sparked a transformative wave nationwide. Members of the Chinese community united, contributing funds and resources. Many young individuals entered education, taking on teaching and staff roles in independent Chinese secondary schools despite low salaries. They committed themselves to preserving Chinese culture and fostering national pride, helping these schools rise from the ashes and strengthening the cultural identity of the community.

In the three decades since the revival movement of independent Chinese secondary schools, the education system within these schools and the Unified Examinations have produced outstanding outcomes that are truly commendable.

Despite their dedication and hard work, many independent Chinese secondary school teachers have not been appropriately recognized for their invaluable contributions.

Since 2013, the need for a fair salary and welfare system for teachers in independent Chinese secondary schools has gained prominence. Discussions at the National Exchange Conference for Principals have driven the creation of the "Reference Guide for the Salary and Welfare System for Teachers in Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools," now in its third edition. This reflects our commitment to enhancing the welfare of educators who shape the future.

Since then, numerous high-performing independent Chinese secondary schools have implemented impactful changes aimed at increasing teachers' salaries, fostering teaching professionalism, and providing comprehensive teacher training. These efforts have successfully stabilized their teaching staff, ensuring a more consistent and high-quality educational experience for students.
